Flower arranging

Jackie Nicholls of Ashville Design Flower Arrangement

A recent flower arrangement workshop held at Combe St Nicholas Village Hall, near Chard, inspired the women of Axminster – including Julia Yates – to produce hand-woven baskets filled with beautiful flowers.

The workshop began with the audience watching their tutor give a step-by-step demonstration. Then it was their turn to create a modern take on a traditional basket arrangement with a “just picked” floral design. Using seasonal flowers and foliage, their designs had a natural country garden feel. Beautiful ribbons have been added as a finishing touch.

A nice gesture saw several women decide to give their beautiful baskets as special gifts to those who had helped them during the pandemic.

Award-winning Somerset tutor Jackie Nicholls of Ashville Design, who teaches the workshops, said: “It was a much anticipated workshop – and finally, a step back to normal life. I was overwhelmed by the continued enthusiasm for flower arrangement during the morning and afternoon sessions. It was great to have so many laughs again and I was delighted with all the designs made. Congratulations to everyone who came for a fabulous floral treat! “
